Developed in 1937 by Mauser, the HS stands for Hahn Selbstspann (self-cocking hammer) and the C stands for the third revision before production. Almost all of the pre-WW II pistols were used by the German military and will be marked WAA. The pistol was well designed and manufactured and had a commercially pleasing appearance. Immediately after the war several thousand pistols were made for the French and thereafter for commercial sale in both .32 and the post-war introduced .380 caliber. Currently manufactured and imported to the U.S.
